Things That Have Helped Me That Might Help You! ♡
Make a list of things you like! It can be as simple as a soft blanket or a sunrise.
If you struggle with zoning out or dissociation - smelling strong scents like lavender or chewing mint/cinnamon gum, putting on lip plumper if you use any, or trying other different grounding techniques you have found effective to stay in the present moment.
For panic moments where I can’t calm down and I feel I am at level ten, the DBT skill - T.I.P.P has been very helpful.
Another DBT skill that has helped me when I feel overly stressed or drained is called self soothe.
Setting the boundaries with yourself is important. With depression you shouldn’t just spend your days in bed, but you also shouldn’t go out every day trying to outrun or avoid your problems either. Listen to your gut/body.
Realizing its okay if your current best isn’t as good as it used to be.
Try rearranging your space - a new space can really make you feel like you have a fresh start even if it’s a little bit out of your comfort zone. This is a personal favorite of mine!
It's always a good idea to write down what you’re thankful for.
Be honest with your therapist; they can only help you as much as you tell them.
Going for a drive/a walk and listening to music.
If you don’t have a therapist it’s always a good idea to get one, especially one you can trust and feel safe with. And regardless of what you're going through, having a therapist can always help you build better communication and provide you with skills to be able to handle your emotions.
